Judy: My daughter. The once and future king of daytime television. She had her own show once, before...the incident. And now she has a second chance. Don't be disappointed if this story has a happy ending. We're all here together, live, a studio audience. We're all in the same fantasy, and I am feeling just like a big electric sign that says 'Applause'. Flashing, flashing! And when I sparkle, you clap. Kirthi: I prefer to appear to people in dreams. But for now, I'm with you, I'm in the audience. Problems occur over there, but here I am, clapping, safe! I love to watch. ( Giddily. ) Don't you? Judy: Yes! I appear under the sign of "Judy" or "mother" but when I begin to watch, my pleasure blends into yours, and I dissolve. Then we're interrupted by a refreshing commercial break, and I remember, this is not just any talk show host, this is MY DAUGHTER. ( Pounds her chest, then begins to weep.) Kirthi: Don't cry. This is her big come back! Judy: It's just--been--so hard. |
